Band Interview: Holding Poison
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with hard rock band, Holding Poison.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Although we’ve known each other for years, Lockdown 2020 was the kickstart the project needed and the opportunity to finally work on a music project together. Matt found himself thinking of the most productive way to utilise the downtime and decided to bring some of the demos he’d been working on to life. With Jack’s help, this became a reality pretty quickly with the EP taking shape within a matter of a few months.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We’ve tried to make sure we have no real boundaries in terms of a hard rock sound. It’s not predominately riffs. Some songs have more attack than others and then we have a more commercial side/ calming side to our sound. Melody is key though!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Between us, we have a vast array of influences so the key is trying to get them into our own sound.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Not at all, streaming platforms are a massive bonus for bands now. You can reach further than ever and it’s not difficult for people to navigate to your music. The downside is pay but let’s be honest, you don’t start out in music to become a millionaire these days.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
What can you do at the moment with COVID, walks, games, and songwriting are definitely up there!
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We have a live video coming out end of April/ start of May which will feature all our songs from our debut EP – By a Thread – If you haven’t already go give it a listen! it’s on all major streaming services! After the live video, it’ll be gigging. Getting out and playing these songs as much as possible!
