1. How did you get started as a band?

Heathen Hearts was formed in the fall 2021. In 2020 our second guitarist Lauri, was gathering players to play a Turbonegro cover gig in a local turbojugend fanclub party with this lineup, but because of Covid that didn’t happen. So it was our drummer Ville who suggested that maybe we could start playing metallic hardcore and here we are.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Authentic, aggressive yet melodic metallic hardcore.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Our personal influences varies a lot from black metal to radio pop and each one has their own favorites and influences, but regarding the Heathen Hearts song writing standpoint, there’s bands like Terror, Comeback kid, Hatebreed, The ghost inside etc. which has the metal blended perfectly into hardcore. There’s elements also from more traditional melodic metal and we are not trying to copy anybody but doing whatever feels authentic and gets ourselves excited.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

Definitely helped. We released the first EP only digitally on streaming platforms accompanied with two music videos released on our official youtube channel, and both music videos are also featured on Hardcore worldwide youtube channel. We collaborated with a few promo agencies also with the release of the EP, and got streams, comments and even private messages from all around the world which would have not been possible without youtube, spotify, bandcamp or social media such as facebook, instagram etc. Streaming services are giving people very easy access to music everywhere with basically any device whether it is a computer, tablet or mobile phone. Of course there is a lot of discussion regarding the shares they are paying for artists but that is a completely different topic.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Regular dayjob, spending time with family and friends. I personally don’t have any hobbies but I’m more of a stay-at- home kind of person who just likes to chill doing nothing.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We are constantly writing new material and hoping to start recording the next EP this fall. Hopefully we are able to release it at the beginning of next year and are currently booking shows in Finland for next year also to support the release. Also hoping to expand the borders outside of Finland very soon.
