Band Interview: Ghastly
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with gothic-infused rock solo project, Ghastly.
1. How did you get started as a band?
This is a solo project and not a band as such – I do have another band – different vibe ‘The filthy Spectacula’- The reason I do this solo project is so that I can make darker and heavier music that does not fit into the band . Being solo also gives me freedom to explore musically where I want to go. The process I use for this is that I write the songs , demo them , play them and contribute with other musicians, record them…..I may look into forming a full band at some point but it has to be the right people.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Dramatic, powerful, melodic with a hint of the gothic about it.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
I like the power of bands like the music of Rammstien and Ministry. I like the darkness in a lot of gothic music and I like the darker sides of classic bands like the Doors.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Youtube etc. has allowed my music and my videos to be seen and heard worldwide. Not everyone over the planet can come to one of my gigs but they can see/hear us from anywhere. I think it is a great tool. I am a visual artist and I love the mixture of sound and vision. I have videos on youtube etc. with Ghastly Murder and The filthy spectacula- It has opened doors for everyone without the big record companies being the gatekeepers of taste.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I will be doing something creative – either photography, film making, painting or writing songs – I will also drool at guitars on eBay.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
If I take this show on the road I can do this as a solo artist or with a band it will be an experience and an onslaught of the senses both sonically and visually- I will create a whole world around what I do.
