Band Interview: Emerra
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with modern djent/rock band, Emerra.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Hey! Thanks for the Interview! We actually all started out in different metal bands and when our paths crossed we were interested in doing something entirely different. So we started a rock band called Depart. After some years of songwriting, studio works, touring and trying to find our sound, we were drawn back to the heavier side of things. We didn’t want to force ourselves against the urge to tune lower and hit harder, so we gave the project a new name and started everything from scratch.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Our foundation could be described as a mixture of modern djent styles and 2000’s nu metal simplicity, but we also make detours over synthesizers, ambient rock music and even a little jazz.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Our favorite artists are bands such as Northlane, Nothing More, Architects, Periphery, Toska, Karnivool and you could put a little Tesseract in there as well.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It gave us the chance to reach people on this globe that would otherwise have never heard about our little band! So we’re thankful for the possibilities it gives us, although we are absolutely sure that it makes making a living as a musician close to impossible.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Max and I are loving a good evening with our friends gaming over discord, and Stefan loves surfing lately, haha. Timo love Burgers and photography.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We would love to play any live show right now, haha. Covid hit us in a bad moment, since we released our debut EP ‘Monochrome’ last November and wanted to use the spring time to play lots of shows. So we decided to use the time to write more music and try to promote our debut EP online.
