Band Interview: Demi The Daredevil

Demi the Daredevil is an American Art Rock band that have built a cult following in El Paso and Las Cruces, New Mexico spurred by a winning Ernie Ball Warped Tour contest slot, having their own renditions of The Beatles “Blackbird,” “Feur Elise,” and original song “Goosebumps” added to a Sante Fe Rockers compilation CD.

Their latest release, The Secret Schizoid EP was released via the Orchard in October 2016.

1. How did you get started as a band?

It started in our hometown El Paso. We were in high school. Jovan (RIP) and Marc started playing guitar together, and I was introduced to them by a mutual friend. I started off on the drums in this band. We were the butt of a lot of other bands jokes because punk rock wasn’t the cool style to be playing in our post hardcore indie scene.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Dark, theatrical, schizofunic rock.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Muse, Green Day, Blink 182, Queen, The Used, My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots, Show tunes, 90s soft rock, Pop punk.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

We’re only hindered in terms of song sales. In terms of exposure, they’ve done nothing but helped. I think they can do nothing but help if you know what potential fans to market too.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

I like reading a lot, watching movies. I like being around animals and nature & stuff. If I’m alone and getting quiet time, I’m enjoying myself.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

Yes, we are planning a regional tour this spring, hitting cities like Houston, Dallas, Forth Worth, San Antonio. And then we’re also playing a few showcases in Nashville that our producer John McCracken is setting up. He landed us a deal with Atlas Publishing so really hoping to license a song out through them or the Orchard. Hope whoever is reading can check out our recent “Secret Schizoid EP.” If you want substance and meaning, that EP is for you.

We’d like to thank Demi the Daredevil for giving us their time with this interview & Stencil PR for arranging it. You can find out more about the band on their official website.
