Band Interview: CRASHKID!
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with alternative rock band, CRASHKID!
1. How did you get started as a band?
We originally formed as a three-piece before creating the current line-up, which featured myself (TJ) and Harry. I met Harry in my High School Music class. It was then that I asked him if he wanted to start band.
Whilst seeking a new bassist in 2018 after the departure of the previous bassist, Matthew joined the band. He did a small audition where we met up and practiced one of our songs that played at the time. We found that he was an excellent player and asked him to join the band.
Andrew and I had known each other when I asked him to join the band, we shared a common interested in music and we showed such a drive to create and perform that I thought made him perfect as a potential band mate. I was toying with the idea of getting another guitarist involved at the time, so I asked Andrew to join.
Current line-up: TJ Green – Lead Vocals/Guitar, Andrew Dunn – Lead Guitar, Matthew Simpson – Bassist, Harry Bang – Drums
2. How would you describe your sound?
We would describe ourselves as an Alternative/Indie Rock band.
We explore a mixture of different style/genres, which would include Post-Punk, Soul, Grunge, Funk, Blues, etc.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
The primary artists/bands that have influenced us would include Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Arctic Monkeys, the Police, Talking Heads and Led Zeppelin.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
We believe although it may be harder to make money through online music streaming, it has made music more easily accessible than ever. This is good thing as a local band today can gain unbelievable popularity through online music streaming, which might have been more difficult to obtain decades ago.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
When we are making music, we are practicing or performing live as we find performing live and interacting with a crowd to be the most enjoyable aspect of what we do.
We also go to see other local bands and network with other musicians; it is always lovely to emerge ourselves in the local scene.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
As we network, we hope to collaborate with new and exciting collaborators, such as promoters and musicians in order put on large shows and expose new people to music on a larger scale.
We would to travel down to England and support other acts, so we can meet new artists and make new connections with people that we otherwise wouldn’t have.
Our goal, musically, has always been to continually improve the music we create, find new ways of defining ourselves as a band to make music we are truly proud of and love.
