Band Interview: Broken Lines
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with multi-faceted rock band, Broken Lines!
1. How did you get started as a band?
In 2017, Jack joined Dave in the embryonic stages. We started looking for a bass player and after a couple of initial possibilities we were contacted by Mark Briscoe at the end of 2017. His experience, ability and musical knowledge have enhanced Broken Lines and together we are reaching new and exciting levels of creativity and sound…
2. How would you describe your sound?
We feel we don’t really have a specific style and are difficult to pigeonhole. We play whatever floats our boat and have quite an eclectic mix of themes due our wide range of influences. Above all, it’s about creating an experience and a feeling and sharing that with our audience.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Mark: The Stranglers, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, New Model Army, Bob Marley, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Steve Harley.
Dave: Jimi Hendrix, Nick Cave, Rage Against The Machine, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Bowie.
Jack: New York Dolls and The Pink Fairies.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Helped definitely. Social media is a great way to get yourselves out there if you use it properly. You have the world at your fingertips if you learn the technology well.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Mark: I like to paint watercolours or hang out in my workshop making wooden stuff. Anything creative floats my boat.
Dave: Surfing, family, walking, being outdoors, playing with modular synths and spending time with friends.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
The sky ‘s the limit really! All three of us are totally committed to Broken Lines, and we have the experience and skill to move forward, creating new milestones along the way. We want people to feel the way we do about our music and enjoy the Broken Lines experience.
