Band Interview: Before Nitrogen

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with eclectic and optimistic indie act, Before Nitrogen.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Before Nitrogen started in 2017 with our lead singer/songwriter Sean. Jack (guitar/co-lead singer) came on board in 2018, and Joe (DJ/machine master/kazoo/bubbles) joined formally in 2019 creating the trio you see today!

2. How would you describe your sound?

Imagine if James Taylor was produced by Owl City.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

The three of us grew up on lots of different sounds and artists – from Taylor Swift to Johnny Cash to Green Day – and it all comes through in our music in one way or another. The thing that holds it all together is our mission statement as a band: “Hope is Not Lost.”

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

We aren’t picky about how our music gets to you, so long as it finds its way – YouTube and streaming have definitely given us a lot of options!

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

We’re actually all such big nerds that we’re using this time where we’re all working from home and not playing live shows to get better at making music – working on our chops and familiarizing ourselves with production techniques.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

At this moment, we’re dealing with the fact that we can’t even rehearse together, let alone play a show. But true to our“Hope is Not Lost” motto, we know that we can get through this. Our big news now is that we have a new single out as of May 1st called “Found” – it’s a sweet little pop song about faith in the future, and we hope it resonates during this strange moment in time.
