Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with heavy metal band, BackBlast!
How did you get started as a band?
Dan Cunningham (Vocals), Chris Tamberella (Drums) and our former guitarist Marcos Eguia started BackBlast in 2015 originally as a studio project only. After writing for 6 months and really enjoying the process, we moved forward as a full time band. Over the past few years we’ve tweaked the lineup and brought on Adam Pritcher (Guitar), Wilsen Rivera (Bass) and Jake Ford (Lead Guitar). We’ve been playing throughout the Eastern United States since.
2. How would you describe your sound?
I would describe our sound and a mix of Power, Progressive and Hardcore. I would say those are our biggest influences individually and shows in our music.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
I could name a ton, but I would say some of the biggest influences are Lamb of God, Dio, Iced Earth, Opeth and Jaco Pastorius.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I think it’s a true mixed bag. I think it has helped independent bands get a broader reach to potential fans and listeners. However, with free streaming services and the licensing agreements artists have with them, financially it is a killer for almost every band. People just aren’t buying albums anymore. So, the only real way any up and coming band can make ends meet is to tour endlessly and bank on merch and ticket sales.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We all really like going to shows when were not playing, recording or writing. Most of us are big sports fans, so Sundays are for Football during the season. Wilsen writes, records and performs his solo material when we might have some downtime as well. Mainly just about anything that involves our friends and family.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Right now we are in the process of writing the new album. With Jake and Wilsen coming into the band last year, this is the first time that the five of us are writing together. It has been a blast! Our sound is evolving and we are really excited for our fans to hear the new material. Right now, we are booked throughout the east coast until the end of august. Were looking at September and October to get back in the studio and record the new album. Our goal is to have a Late Fall or Early Winter 2018 release with a supporting tour.
We’d like to thank BackBlast for taking the time to speak with us. As well as finding their music via major streaming services you can also buy it via Amazon above and via their website here. Support the band by liking their Facebook Page, following them on Twitter and on Instagram.
