Band Interview: A World Extinct
Games, Brrraaains and A Head-Banging Life are very pleased to bring you an interview with Southern California based metalcore band, A World Extinct. They released their latest EP, Theodicy on April 7th 2018 and you can read our review here.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Well David and Ian have been playing together in bands since 2011. They started A World Extinct in 2014 after their previous band broke up. Up until last summer we had a completely different lineup. Three of the old members left, and that made room for Chris, Damon, and Ryan to join.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We would describe it as heavy and melodic. We have a good mixture of heaviness and melody in our songs, and it really shows in our songs. Especially in our new songs. We just released a new EP entitled Theodicy, and it has something for everyone. It’s heavy, it’s melodic, it’s fast, it’s slow, etc.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
There’s a few bands that have really influenced our sound. Bands like August Burns Red, Underoath, and Architects have really impacted us and our sound.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It has definitely helped. We’re reaching places that we could never dream of reaching without all the new streaming services. They aren’t even that old either. We’ve been playing for a while now, and a lot of these services and apps that have our music didn’t even exist a few years ago.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We like playing video games, watching and playing sports, photography, making short films, writing, and some other stuff.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Like we said earlier, we just released a new EP and we’re planning to play a lot of shows and hopefully tour a bit on that. We have some things in the works right now, but nothing is confirmed just yet. After that, we’ll probably start writing again real soon.
