1. How did you get started as a band?

A Permanent Shadow is actually a solo project with a band name. I am the sole member and surround myself with “helpers” to get things done. I started this project in 2016/17 collaborating with Albert Català, a keyboard player and producer. We have since produced two albums together with a third already in the works.

2. How would you describe your sound?

You could say it’s New Wave Rock with electronic tinges.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

I am a huge fan of David Bowie. I also like Lou Reed and Iggy Pop a lot, as well as Eighties bands like Simple Minds, Echo & The Bunnymen or Psychedelic Furs. Of more recent bands, I think Editors and White Lies have been an influence, John Grant as well. I like artists with personality that swim a bit against the stream and have their own unmistakeable sound.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

We are very active on the video front and have created four music videos each for “Songs of Loss”, our debut album, and “Humdrum”, our second record out in early 2022. Youtube can give you a lot of visibility and help you find an audience. That said, it’s a bit of a jungle out there with so much music on offer. But it is what it is and you better adapt.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

I love the beach. I live in Barcelona, so there’s plenty of Mediterranean summer vibes to be soaked in for at least six months of the year. Other than that, long walks, sipping coffee on a terrace and dedicate time to my cats.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We’ll release our new single “Shining Star” and the accompanying video on September 24th and a new album in March 2022. You can check out www.apermanentshadow.com for details. We have already started work on the third record and a covers EP which we hope to release later next year. On the live front, no news to share yet, but hopefully we will bring our songs to as many venues and festivals as possible in 2022.
