Anticipated Horror Games of 2022

The gaming industry has undergone many changes and witnessed several innovations. Technological advancements have turned the dream of having various types of games into a reality. There are millions of games across multiple platforms such as PC, Console and even mobile phones. On top of that, there are different genres of games available to players globally. Every preference of an individual has a game made according to it. For example, a casual gamer can play a game like Candy Crush, whereas another player who likes casinos can enjoy a virtual casino through platforms like happy luke. The point is there is no scarcity of games. A plethora of genres enriches the gaming experience. One such beloved genre is horror. 

Horror is scary, but still, several people enjoy it because it is thrilling. Every year, newly released horror games send shivers down the spines of the players who play them. 

The horror genre of video games has been around since the 1970s. But back then, it wasn’t as chilling and as real as it is now. With time progressing, innovations and crazy storylines are also rapidly increasing and being delivered to the audience to enjoy. 

Last year (2021) witnessed a new batch of horror games, and gamers anticipate many more this year.

The Outlast Trials

This year witnesses the arrival of the third installment in the Outlast series, developed by Red Barrels. A Cold War experiment storyline is a game involving a first-person psychological thriller. And, of course, horror.  This part of the series is the prequel of the previously released parts. Initially announced in 2017, the game developers didn’t explicitly mention a particular release date. Only the year of release is known. The game is going to be available on a PC platform. 

The Callisto Protocol

Designed by Striking Distance, belonging to the horror survival genre, the public’s revelation is in 2022.  It’s a game involving survival elements and a lot of horrors with a third-person experience. Designer Glen Schofield (founder of Striking Distance) is behind the famous Dead Space series. So, players are in for a probable treat. The anticipation is high!

Players gaming on platforms like Xbox series, PlayStation 5 and PC will enjoy this game, as the game will be available on those platforms. The developers are building on the PUBG franchise storyline. The Callisto Protocol is a part of the Player Unknown’s BattleGrounds universe. The central character will be a convict trapped in the ongoing invasion that the jail warden probably started. 

Dead Space

Sci-fi and horror make a great combo. This remake of the game is precisely that. This first-person game mode produced by Motive Studios is the remake of the original game released in 2008. There was no news about the game after the third installment. But, now players got to know that a recreation of the first installment is in the making; the excitement in the gaming community is immeasurable. 

Evil Dead: The Game

Based on the franchise Evil Dead, this game will include player vs player experience and cooperative battle. It is another survival horror game. The game developers, Saber Interactive, and publishers, Boss Team Games, have announced the tentative release date as 13 May 2022. 

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Expected to release on 25 March 2022, the game developed by Tango Gameworks (best known for The Evil Within); this action and adventure game, emulated from other ideas, appears to be just as terrifying as other games. In this first-person game, a group of creatures out of this world sets camp after everyone in Tokyo abruptly disappears. Gamers will play the central character named Akito. The main character possesses special skills which allow him to communicate with this peculiar world. The game looks to have good graphics and will be a popular choice given the state of influence anime has over the world. 

Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines 2

Supernatural creatures are an essential part of the horror sector. In this game, players design their character (a vampire, of course) and join various clans. On their journey, they encounter werewolves, demons and other superficial creatures. Developed by Brain Mitsoda, the game is an addition to The World of Darkness string. 

This list is just a glimpse of what’s in store for the gaming community. Players can expect top-tier games to drop this year in terms of the horror genre. Gamers will surely get their share of jumpscares and goosebumps soon enough.
