Album Review: Zornheym – Where Hatred Dwells And Darkness Reigns (Non Serviam Records)
A dramatic musical & cinematic narrative surrounding the horrors of a mental institution & its patients. Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns is the debut album from symphonic extreme band, Zornheym. It’s out on September 15th via Non Serviam Records.
With the 9 tracks that make up the album being a different story about individual psychiatric patients, Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns is a masterpiece of inventive writing & musical execution.
Opening with the intense & dark rhythm of The Opposed, the extreme blackened metal style is blended wonderfully with string orchestrations & choir. It’s an attention grabbing start helped by the smooth & clean production.
The Silent God ups the intensity thanks to the ferocity of the vocals & drumming, Trifecta of Horrors makes great use of the choir & Whom the Night Brings… goes all out with an energetic blast of violins & crushing metal rhythm.
In between these tracks are short pieces of haunting & uncomfortable sounding ambience. Sometimes melodic & soul searching, at other times twisted & evil, like the soundtrack to your worst nightmares.
The final 3 songs change that up though, choosing instead to just blast the extreme metal out as hard & fast as possible.
