Album Review: Wyld Timez – Nefarious Instinct (Morbid And Miserable Records)
From out of the wretched cesspool formerly known as Cleveland, Ohio comes Wyld Timez! After a pair of introductory EPs in 2021 and 2022 (titled Wyld Timez and Let the Devil In respectively) the three-piece is ready to tear off an even bigger chunk of flesh with their first full-length album ‘Nefarious Instinct’! It will be released on July 7th,2023, via Morbid and Miserable Records.
The name of the game is high-powered speed metal with punk energy, and from the moment the title track comes screaming out hell, most will be up for playing. Wyld Timez has one speed and their playing it most of the album. A little bit nasty, a little bit coarse, and with quite a lot of intensity, To the Gallows ups the heaviness while still be unrelentingly fast.
There’s more of that punk spirit in Infernal Wretch, the riffs dominating everything. Before things get a bit more sinister and wicked sounding with the filthy groove of Graveyard Sorcery. Then along comes Devil’s Miscreant to get the heart racing. Wyld Timez injecting their brand of fuel directly into your veins with this frenzied metal head-banger.
Guess what? Cryptic Warning is another fast one! Shocking, right? Although this track does have an air of thrash to it too. Then it’s an ode to the sound of speed metal in general with the lovable Lust and Leather. Before the speed becomes nearly intolerable with Bleed for Speed. Wyld Timez are aiming for the wall and the brakes aren’t working.
Such a fun album and kept nice and concise so as to not overstay its welcome.
