Album Review: Wiegedood – De Doden Hebben Het Goed III (Century Media Records)

Formed in 2014 by Levy Seynaeve (Amenra, Oathbreaker) as well as Wim Coppers and Gilles Demolder (both also in Oathbreaker). Wiegedood quickly became a household name in the European extreme metal scene. Both of their albums, ‘De Doden Hebben Het Goed’ and ‘De Doden Hebben het Goed II’ have made waves beyond the realms of black metal.

De Doden Hebben Het Goed III will be released on April 20th 2018 via Century Media Records.

Lengthy trips into black metal darkness, Wiegedood’s new release may just be 4 tracks long but it’s an epic journey into both the ferocity and beauty that can often be found in the genre. Wiegedood take the listener on a fiery trip into hellish locations before turning around and slamming with an icy cold blast of air.

A very satisfying record, it’s both familiar and fresh sounding, long time fans of black metal mixed with atmospherics will really enjoy De Doden Hebben Het Goed III. Wiegedood can move from intense riffs, harsh vocals and crunching percussion in an instant. It’s no surprise really considering the Oathbreaker links.

If there is any criticism that can be levied against the record it’s that the occasional track does go on a little too long. A bit too much repetition starts to make the likes of the title track sound like its meandering along rather then coming at you with force.
