Album Review: Widower – Cataclysmic Sorcery (Black Market Metal Label)
Blackened thrash metal scourge Widower is set to unleash their first-ever full-length album, Cataclysmic Sorcery. This nine-track hellstorm delivers an unrelenting battery of rapid-fire drumming, dueling guitar harmonies, tortured screams and pummeling thrash rhythms. With sadistic intensity, Widower blur the lines of black metal, death and thrash.
Black Market Metal Label and Widower will release Cataclysmic Sorcery on CD, digital, cassette and LP on May 24th 2019.
House of the Lord introduces Cataclysmic Sorcery with an incredible amount of fire and beastliness. The riffs ring out like the tolling of bells, the drums sound off a raw and harsh beat and the vocals roar with blackened fury. Widower have arrived and they want everyone to know it.
The riffs and solos come thick and fast as Widower waste no time blasting out Into the Crypt and Hell Sent. Both tracks heavy, fast and unwilling to bend to anyone’s will be their own.
The longer it goes on, the more brutal it seems to get. Such as the short-fire slamming of Mandatory Immolation and the following wall of noise that comes from Fornicate Upon Mass Graves. It’s just a shame that the drums sound a bit off here. It’s a problem throughout the album but here, way more noticeable.
There are no surprises as we reach Cosmic Holocaust and Forgotten Realm but who needs one!?
