Album Review: We’re Wolves – Evil Things (Self Released)

We’re Wolves is a dark-humored, horror-loving, hard-hitting, energetic, unapologetic blend of metal subgenres and hard rock. The band is constantly pushing the boundaries of entertainment through satirical yet theatrically-morbid visuals that play off their carefully crafted aggressive sound. We’re Wolves have conceived their first full-length album Evil Things, a diverse collection of songs designed to connect to the sinner in all of us. Based on Dante’s “The Divine Comedy,” the album takes the listener on a journey through the underworld of Hell, both sonically and lyrically.

Evil Things will be released on October 22nd, 2021.

The perfect accompaniment to Halloween, We’re Wolves bring everlasting horror and suffering on their excellent debut album, Evil Things. Drawing from one of the greatest literary interpretations of the great beyond and Hell, We’re Wolves send listeners tumbling into the fiery abyss with 10-tracks of high-powered, energetic and heavy metal/rock tunes.

Welcome to Hell, featuring Bryan Kuznitz of Fame on Fire showcases the tongue in cheek nature of We’re Wolves. Dark but playful melody layered over a recorded announcement describing your arrival to eternal damnation before things get groovy and very heavy. A kick-ass chorus that will get the dead up and moving, a ferocity that makes things feel desperate and a breakdown capable of crushing necks and skulls.

They’re just getting started though. The descent through the circles continues into the hopeless Wasteland. Where We’re Wolves await, brimming with razor-sharp riffing, guttural vocals and flesh tearing hooks. Life of A Parasite will have you scratching your body as its frantic heaviness infects and Wrath delivers unyielding aggression and brutal vehemence.

The halfway point of the album brings eerie and chilling revulsion with the haunting intermission of Limbo. Whatever your mind can conjure up when it comes to this place, We’re Wolves have nailed the soundtrack to its deep and dark emptiness.

Leading to the unsettling melody, spurts of anger and huge sound chorus of Fall with Me before the energetic heaviness of Under My Throne erupts for a bout of wildness. Though that almost seems calm when compared to the bouncing nu-metal tinged Sell Your Soul.

The journey is almost done (and what a journey it has been) but first Pride must be faced and Ice Nine Kills’ Spencer Charnas is along for the ride. No stranger to horror-themed music (Ice Nine Kills have their own terrifying release out now), his vocals add some freshness at this late stage. Adding even more impact to a track that feels so sinful to enjoy.

Evil Things wraps up with something really different though. A melodramatic ballad that features the vocals of Rain Paris. A very mournful and sorrowful finish, it’s a downbeat ending but feels so fitting considering this is eternal damnation.

We’re all condemned.
