Album Review: Vandenberg – Sin (Mascot Records)

Vandenberg, the anthemic hard rock and airtight metal band, will release their new full-length album, Sin. To be released on August 25th, 2023, via Mascot Records.

Showcasing heavy metal flair, hard rock energy, and everything in between, Vandenberg are having a screaming good time on this new album. Which means those who press play on it, will too. Torn between the urge to dance and head-bang along to the nine heavyweight offerings of the record.

Kicking off a blast of vitality with the aptly title Thunder and Lightning, Vandenberg bring the riffs. Followed then by House on Fire. A track that brings the groove and really lets the vocals soar. Before the title track comes along to really show just how epic this band can be. Vandenberg showing off infectious confidence, layering of melody, symphonic pomp, and outright head-banging heaviness with great composure.

It’s one of the more extensive and detailed tracks on the entire album. Which does mean Light it Up is something of a palette cleanser afterwards. A more straight-forward slice of hard rocking groove with an anthemic chorus. Then along comes Walking on Water and Burning Skies. Two more lovable bangers from a band seemingly capable of throwing out hard rocking body shakers and heavy metal neck-ache inducing hits in their sleep.

Although sleep is not something that will even enter anyone’s mind as the album reaches its latter stage and Vandenberg keep the energy hot with the frantic sound of Hit the Ground Running. Then hit a dramatic high with the melodious ‘ballad’ that is Baby You’ve Changed. Wrapping up the album with the punchy riff-driven Out of the Shadows. The cherry on top, as most will be well and truly sold on this album’s quality well before this point.
