Album Review: Tortured – Genetically Engineered Monstrosity (Comatose Music)

Brutal death metal band Tortured will release their debut full-length album ‘Genetically Engineered Monstrosity’ on July 7th, 2023, via Comatose Music.

Callous, harsh, and grotesque death metal seeps from every pore of this band and there is no nice way to say this, it’s f**king gross. As brutal as they come, Tortured simply smash the senses into oblivion across nine feral and furious tracks. Each as horrible and heinous as the last.

None of this is meant as a negative though. We all know the score here. If a band promises you bone-breaking, skin-flaying, and muscle-tearing brutal death metal, they better deliver it. Tortured go one step beyond and defy expectations by being even more violent. It’s an album that shares plenty in common with the grind world too.

Now, there is a bit of mind-mushing going on. Tortured play at one constant tempo, for the most part, the instruments are abrasive all the way through, and the vocals gurgle constantly like a blocked drain. This does mean tracks do start to blur into one as the album reaches its latter stages. It’s about the only negative we can say though as this level of revolting noise is extremely appealing. You must have a taste for the extreme side of metal to enjoy this, that much is for sure.

It’s worth checking out. Just don’t be surprised if you’re left wondering why your face is dripping off your skull.
