Album Review: Tides of Man – Every Nothing (Self Released)

Tides of Man is an instrumental rock band from Tampa, Florida. Drummer Josh Gould, bassist Alan Jaye, and guitarist Spencer Gill formed the band in 2007, with guitarist Daniel Miller joining in 2010.

After trying out many vocalists and demoing several new songs, the band was unable to find their new singer. With the sound of the new music already taking inspiration from the instrumental post-rock genre, Tides decided on a different approach. They stopped trying to fill the position and instead let the music speak for itself.

They make their much-anticipated return with new album ‘Every Nothing’ on 3rd August 2018.

Every Nothing shows a darker and more brooding side of the band, often allowing the listener to drift through the atmosphere of each song. Tides Of Man have refined their sound, with careful attention placed on the song arrangements and tones to deliver a truly emotional experience.

Everything Nothing 2

Gloriously melodic, darkly poignant and excitingly post-rock, the new album from Tides of Man is instrumental wonder. The ease in which the band make every track meaningful, feeling like a piece of a puzzle that when put together makes a beautiful image that you can’t stop staring at.

Unique melodies and post-rock rhythm that pulls at the soul, Static Hymn, New Futures and Far Off showcase a hypnotic level of atmosphere. The latter of the three in particular is a truly emotional experience.

Not that it’s all about melody as when Tides of Man let rip they’re surprisingly heavy with the concentrated noise at the end of Old 88 and Waxwing proving that.

There are few lulls in quality with really only Keep Telling Yourself not putting in the legwork but as that’s followed by two of the best tracks, it hardly matters. Death is No Dread Enemy and Outside Ourselves both take the listener on thought-provoking journeys filled with sullen melody and uplifting bursts of energy.

It’s in similar style that Every Nothing ends. An exceptionally sensitive track, Infinite Ceiling is absolutely gorgeous and a fine way to end an exceedingly good album.
