Album Review: This Summit Fever – This Summit Fever (Majestic Mountain Records)

This Summit Fever, the riff-worshipping fuzz rock duo, will unleash their self-titled debut album on April 4th, 2025, via Majestic Mountain Records.

A much-anticipated release, the riff might be king here, but it’s part of a court of auditory delights, and across eight exciting efforts, all will be in thrall to what is offered here. This Summit Fever are more than just fuzzed-up riffs, even if that aspect is so notable, and the duo kick their debut album off in grin-inducing noisy style.

It’s Breathe You In and it is an explosive start, showcasing dynamic groove with a raw vein running through it. The first of many infectious listens, it’s also the first clear sign that this album is a bit more varied thanks to the sensational ending.

Slower, thicker, fuzzier, and heavier, the two-piece deliver one of the album’s strongest efforts with the following Currents. The power of it is one thing, but there’s captivating melody too. Proving that their hazy and groovy ways comes in many different forms, a point further solidified by the following heavy fuzz of Hooks. The combo of stoner, desert, doom, and more vibrates throughout the mind, body, and soul. Exceptionally creative, and that’s before the great guitar solo is mentioned.

The pull of this album only gets stronger as it goes on. The middle of the album arriving in psychedelic style via Superfluous. The dreamy rhythm and echo on the vocals sounds great, and even when this one ramps up, it still scratches that itch we all have for something a little weird.

Even with that, it’s still such a groove monster of a track, but that’s no surprise seeing as groove is in this band’s DNA. Tight, focused, and continuing to deliver music that you can both move your body too and let your mind sink into, This Summit Fever hit a head banging high with the meaty sound of Voices. The mellow moments hitting as hard as the heavier eruptions, there’s just a hint of grunge in this one.

It’s a massive high, near untouchable as far as quality goes, but there’s nothing to complain about with Party to Blame and Only Quiteness though. The former is another energised rocker with that significant raw vein in place again, and the latter has the kind of fuzzed up riffs to make the teeth ache and the brain feel a bit ‘loose’.

From the moment the first riff hits on this album, This Summit Fever will have your undivided attention, right up to the end and the elaborate finale of It Haunts Us. A track where you should lean back, close your eyes, and just let the dreamy melodies wash over you. It’s like nothing else on the album, but it doesn’t feel out of place, it’s just another incredible side to this band.

Overall, This Summit Fever have delivered a rousing riff-drenched head banger of an album with varied and creative ideas throughout. It’s exciting, it’s really digestible, and meets all expectations that long term listeners will have for them.
