Album Review: Theotoxin – Fragment: Erhabenheit (AOP Records)
With the intention of creating supreme Black Metal art, this quintet ascended from the catacombs of Vienna, Austria in 2016. Featuring Members of Zombie Inc., Anomalie & Selbstentleibung, the strong lineup of musicians has been well tested on tour all over Europe. After self-releasing the debut album “Atramentvm” in 2017, Theotoxin kept on writing new material which led to the release of the successor “Consilivm” (Massacre Records) just a year later.
Now, in the year of 2020, Theotoxin are back with their brand new album, Fragment: Erhabenheit. Out on September 11th 2020 via AOP Records.
With an eruption of drums and guitars, Theotoxin announce their return with some serious blackened intensity. The noise reverberating around the Golden Tomb and the vocals like the howls and growls of the long dormant living dead.
They’re awake now and it’s going to be a massacre.
Obscure Divinations is just as, if not more, frantic with a blazing level of black fire washing over the senses. Theotoxin capable of delivering a consistent and constant stream of musical abuse that makes the eyes water.
Although if those first two tracks had you backing up a bit, Prayer might have you desperately looking around for the nearest exit.
The build is a bit more drawn out as the guitars ring loudly with devilish horror and the arrival of vocals is akin to the heralding of cosmic beings. It feels larger and more dangerous and that’s before the tempo increases and the throat-shredding vocals step back up. This is a top drawer track.
Which is saying something as this is an album of top drawer tracks. The next ferocious and super memorable offering coming in the form of Through Hundreds of Years before Philosopher dares to really slow the pace down at first with a near hypnotic rhythm. It’s a trap though, as the moment you’re under, Theotoxin attack with all their black metal might and it’s very violent.
So much blood spilled, Two Ancient Spirits slowly drags its gnarled and twisted entities towards the listener where oblivion awaits. Embrace it with all your might as the end is fully in sight now. Theotoxin, with all their power, deliver one final crushing effort in the form of Sanatory Silence.
The feeling of satisfaction, having had such an experience makes the suffering completely worth it.
