Album Review: The Tomb Tones – Ghost Of Toast (Rigor Mortis Records)

It’s the Night of the Living Bread! Atlanta spooksters The Tomb Tones are back from the underworld with a brand new horror-comedy album, Ghost of Toast, ready to rock your eardrums to the grave! Out on the 23rd of June 2023 via Rigor Mortis Records.

It’s Halloween all year long with The Tomb Tones. Their spooktacular and ghoulish punk rock horror-infused sound will have you dreaming of pumpkins. Paying homage to the era of campy horror specials like Elvira’s Movie Macabre and Tales from the Crypt. Influenced by the likes of The Cramps and the B-52s. The Tomb Tones blends classic rock with fun, tacky horror references, and add a sprinkling of punk to their musical concoction.

Drink deeply, it’s more flavour-filled than you might first think.

 

 

Showcasing their tongue in cheek story-telling with the Intro, Halloween Mart comes along with some goth-rock hooks and Wormhole turns the punk rock dial up a notch for something more (re)animated. It’s a fun start, but Dead Meat’s classic rockabilly style is on another level with it comes to making the ghouls of this world get up and move.

It’s important to listen to this album with an air of detachment. Meaning, don’t take it too seriously. The Tomb Tones are talented, that much is clear, but they’re also aiming to be entertaining. How else can you explain the crooner that is Googly Eyes? Or the finger-snapping Mr. Babadookie?

How about the more straight-forward punk groover that is Jumpy? Or Think Tank’s chilled out catchiness, and Come On Let’s Go blast of rocking energy? Each as memorable as the last, and keeping the haunted good times front and centre.

Overall, Ghost of Toast is a lot of fun, with plenty of variety, and with tons of cheesy horror references. What’s not to love?
