Album Review: The Gasölines – Cannonball Run (Speed Club Records)

Do you love: 1950s rock’n’roll and rockabilly? 1960s garage rock and early punk? 1970s rock, punk and heavy metal? 1980s speed, thrash and metal? 1990s rediscovery of all this?

Of course, you do. The Gasölines will release Cannonball Run on September 10th, 2021 via Speed Club Records.

A melting pot of genres, Cannonball Run sees The Gasölines throw just about everything into the mix with very little care in regards to what monstrosity will come out. Listen in horror and delight at the oozing noise that slides infectiously inside. From the frantic heavy metal/rock ‘n’ roll crossover opener Autobahn Outlaws to the rocking speed and thrash-tinged Go! Go! Go! to the groovy and bouncy Last Dollar, The Gasölines keep the good vibes and the energy at the forefront of their raw sound.

It’s the kind of music that makes you picture exactly what the band are saying.

Booze, Gambling & Hotrods is a track where you will smell the liquor, taste the sweat and choke on the exhaust smoke. Chicken Race with the Devil is wicked and dangerous sounding. Speed Freaks hurtles away at a breakneck swiftness. Demolition Derby is a crashing and smashing glee-driven ball of flame and Fireball Garage turns the heat up in glorious rockabilly style.

So much fun, it’s actually a shame it has to come to and end. Though, true to type, it’s with a bang. Queen of Hearts’ as close to a ‘love song’ as you can get here and Whiskey Blues soaking the mind with boozy energy.
