Album Review: The Drippers – Action Rock (The Sign Records)

The spirit of high energy rock ‘n’ roll is reborn with The Drippers, fusing ‘90s Scandinavian rock with bands like Gluecifer, The Hellacopters and Turbonegro with the raw sound of classic bands like The Stooges, MC5 and Radio Birdman. Whether you want to call The Drippers garage or action rock, one thing is certain: the band turns all the dials to eleven. Welcome to the New Wave of Swedish Action Rock

Action Rock, The Drippers’ debut album, is set for release on August 2nd 2019 via The Sign Records. The album was recorded and mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (The Hellacopters, Gluecifer, Entombed) in the legendary Sunlight Studio in Stockholm. The eleven-track record captures the classic Swedish ‘90s sound, but with a modern touch.

Action Rock

A fairly short album, The Drippers’ debut is all about high energy, high tempo rock. They push as hard as possible for nearly 30 minutes and across 11 tracks. Push as hard as possible to get even the laziest person up and on their feet.

It works, there’s no denying that. Action Rock is exactly that. Pulsating and oozing in garage rock chaos but put together with the deft hand of a band who know how to be catchy and memorable too. The end result is one that bounces and bursts with all kinds of energetic good times. The sparks from one track drifting over the next and so on until the entire album is ablaze.

There’s a punk edge that is hard to ignore within The Drippers’ sound. They play with a similar level of disregard for rhythm, instead letting the chaotic nature of the instruments lead the way meaning there really is little time to rest.

One track after another comes along with a point to prove and it would take a strong person to deny The Drippers the platform they need.

An absolute blur of rocking riffs, punkish vocals and percussion that looks to elevate every single moment. Something that certainly works.
