Album Review: The BuzzDealers – Blooming (Self Released)

Formed in 2015, the Athens-based quartet The BuzzDealers serve a sonic blend of blues rooted garage rock ‘n’ roll fused with vibrant riffs and raw, cathartic energy. True to their hometown maxim “Get in, Groove on, Fuzz out”, they come out as a ferocious spirit, untamed in nature that rings heavy and loud.

With references in music of past eras, The BuzzDealers carefully accommodate their signature sound with uncompromising wording and emotional outbursts while stepping in a lucid swirl.

After extensive gigging in iconic venues all over Greece including Gagarin 205, AN Club, Rover, Café Santan and having shared the stage with power rockers such as Hanni El Khatib, and Greek well known bands such as Puta Volcano, Godsleep, Big Nose Attack etc.

The BuzzDealers teamed up with renowned producer Alex Bolpasis to record their debut album Blooming which saw the light on the 19th of February 2020.

Capturing somewhat of a rawer and live sounding performance on their debut, The Buzzdealers spread the groovy rock riffs around gleefully. Emerging with bright and colourful energy on Like An Old Song, they really come to life on the foot-tapping melodies of Electrocution. An apt title as it spreads through the body causing musical spasms that move in time to the beat.

Rarely complex, it’s high-tempo tracks like Sweaty Moves and Sling that gets the blood pumping. The latter an absolute foot-tapper with strong riffs, a delectable vocal performance and a wicked clap along rhythm.

Taking their foot off the gas for the mellow but still very catchy So Divine, it’s the following Who’s Gonna Save My Roll that is The BuzzDealers at their groovy best. An absolute body-shaker of a tune with even a touch of rockabilly to it.

Anything after is just a bonus, a rifftastic and sleazier effort with Sex Me and progressive effort with Hypersonic Jaunt.

Over way too quickly but oh so satisfyingly, The BuzzDealers phenomenal effort goes out in style with Pretty Maze. The whine of guitar, the chilled out vocals, the sudden bursts of life… it’s a bloody excellent closer.
