Album Review: Sublation – The Path to Bedlam (Self Released)

Philly extremists Sublation is set to unleash their full-length debut, The Path to Bedlam. The album will be released on September 13th, 2022.

Forget the path to it, bedlam is here in sonic form as the two-piece that is Sublation (alongside some distinguished guests) create an intense commotion. A clamour of extreme tech-infused death metal with a sinister undertone.

The madness spreads from the sound of a storm, a bell ringing and gothic orchestration with The Sectioning. An elaborate introduction that seamlessly slides into full-blown irrationality with Trepanning of the Evangelics. Sublation unleashing a wave of sheer terror with their brutish approach to metal.

John Norcross, the first of many guests, makes an appearance on Let the Fire Burn. A track that is a delightful inferno of crunchy heaviness. Followed then by Rocco Minichiello on the hyperactive and hypertensive Hypnotic Regression and Dominik Winter on the frenzy of vehemence that is Black Monday.

This kind of tech-infused death metal is the Kool Aid for all fans of unrestrained and unyielding extreme metal. It’s so focused and so well crafted that it never gets boring. Especially when the second half of the album features such jaw-dropping tomes as The Alchemist, Haunted Shores (featuring Tom Geldschläger), Evoked Through Obsidian and Eulogy.

The album culminating in a medley of monstrous instrumentation and grotesque vocals on I Will Show You Fear in a Handful of Dust. Sublation showing that their path to bedlam is littered with the bones of those that have fallen before them.
