Album Review: Stormo – Tagli/Talee (Prosthetic Records)
Long running Italian post-hardcore and noise punk band Stormo are back with their fifth album, ‘Tagli/Talee’, set for release via Prosthetic Records on March 21st, 2025. Translated as ‘cutting’ and ‘grafts’, Stormo’s latest full-length serves as a document of their extensive travels whilst on tour throughout Europe, with each song acting as a vignette of their surroundings to create a broader picture of humanity at its most personal.

Creating a captivating experience that has impressive genre-bending ways, being both accessible and challenging in equal measures. Stormo’s new record is boundary pushing, experimental in places, but can also be thoroughly enjoyed by those looking to let loose to some noisy post-hardcore punk too.
It is very clever music, which isn’t always something you expect to think when listening to something summed up as post hardcore and noise punk. However, that’s because you can’t put Stormo in a box, and while the core sounds are there, they’re so much more. Evident from the first few tracks that showcase their varied ways. There’s the instrumental melodic intro of Tagli, the explosive raw post power of Sabbia, the unexpected industrial feel of Sabbia Pt. 2 Ghiaccio, and the hyperactive Kallitype.
This first section of the album showcases a band with passion running through their veins. Capable of approaching things with instrumental mania in mind and delivering a constant slew of raw sounding vocals, but also capable of upending any moment of comfort in favour of a constant sense of danger.
It is this feeling that drives the infectious intensity of Sciame. Whereas there’s an old-school alternative element to the energetic Rami, a track that gets more chaotic as it goes on. Talee then comes along to calm things down with soft melody, distorted atmosphere and distant shouted vocals. The short and sharp approach (no track goes over three minutes) works to their favour as nothing overstays its welcome, least of all the album as a whole.
Just like that, we’re in the latter part and getting to experience a dynamic listen like Bordi. Getting to sink into the vital sound of Riva, and how it perfectly balances heavy noise and post melody. As well as getting to feel the raw danger of Alte Mura’s heaviness.
This is spectacular, and way more accessible than it may first seem. It’s also very satisfying, even if it does leave you wanting a bit more. Thankfully, the finale is a beast. An abrasive beast that dishes out something more experimental, more feral, and stranger than anything else on the album. A truly unique way for the album to end, but as far as what Stormo has produced on this album, it fits perfectly.
