Album Review: Stillbirth – Revive the Throne (Unique Leader Records)

Blending Death Metal, Grindcore and Deathcore, Germany’s Stillbirth have been around since 1999. The 7th August 2020 will see them rise again to unleash their 7th album, Revive the Throne via Unique Leader Records.

One of the things that really make this album so damn heavy is that Stillbirth incorporate two basses. It gives their brand of vicious noise a richness that violently assaults the ears. Revive the Throne is easily up there as one of 2020’s heaviest releases without a shadow of a doubt.

Throwing everything but the kitchen sink in, Stillbirth erupt with such a twisted effort, it makes the stomach clench and the bowels loosen. The guitars are swung wildly, the drums crash together like tectonic plates and the vocals go from guttural roars to gurgling sewer filth. All with barely a breath or pause across 10 tracks and 30+ minutes.

Not that it’s needed…provided you have the mental fortitude for this level of brutality.

Stillbirth have nailed the sound of pure aggression here. If there’s one thing everyone will take away from the album as a whole, it is just how utterly abusive it is.
