Album Review: Stew – Taste (UPRISING! Records)
Hailing from Örebro, Sweden, Stew began jamming together in late 2017. The band taking their inspiration from the bluesy, hard-rocking bands of the 70s where it was all about making unpretentious music. Stew is now set to release their second full-length album on November 12th, entitled “Taste”, on UPRISING! Records.
With an old-school rock & roll flavour to their dish, Stew serves up a tasty mouthful of groovy music with this new album.
Beginning with a powerful instrumental blast, Keep On Praying settles into something with a moodier rhythm. The vocals are sung in a way that makes them feel sermon-like, something that is enhanced by the unified chorus and gospel style singing that follows the frantic guitar solo.
Still Got the Time and You Don’t Need Me builds on that strong start. The former has Stew letting their progressive hair down and the latter has more upbeat sounding melodies and a more chilled out vibe. It’s a pairing that really opens up the world of Stew for listeners to understand that there is way more to them than just rock and roll.
Talking of which though… Earthless Woman is as traditional rock and roll that Stew can possibly get. A track that shakes, rattles and rolls its way through the mind with its addictive groovy sound. Before All That I Need and Heavy Wings adds even more seasoning to this delicious dish.
Though it’s about to get a bit sexier and sleazier sounding with Stranger in the City. A track you can dance the night away too.
Chances are you might be feeling a bit full at this stage but there’s no doubt you’ll find room for two more bites. New Moon, with its jam-style beat and When Lights Go Out, with its mellow and smooth finish. Eat it all up, it’s so damn satisfying.
