Album Review: Slenders – Angry Youth (This Is Core)
Italian pop-punk’s act Slenders are ready to conquer the alternative audience with their new album “Angry Youth”, available in physical and digital format from February 15th via This Is Core!
About the new album the band says:
“Angry Youth born from the desire to communicate our opinion, the opinion of an “Angry Youth”. That youth who would like to communicate but it’s voiceless, a voice not powerful enough. With this record we want to be the echo of the well thinking teenagers that don’t want to be pushed down by this sick world full of ignorance and Racism. This record talks about politics, love, anger, depression. This record is us, this record is the Angry Youth”.
The name of the album is fitting. Angry Youth is an angry sounding record with a rawer punk feel then most might be used to with modern pop punk. Short, punchy and catchy jabs that share a lot in common with first-album Blink 182 (in sound, not tone) and early Rise Against.
A lot of this can be put on the high-pitched and sharp-toned vocal style that comes at us with pace. Opener Close To showcases this with fast punk spitfire and riffing but it’s actually Sandpaper that really gets the album sounding alive. All thanks to a bit more catchiness and group vocalisation.

The bouncy rhythm becomes more and more present as the poppier elements of the band become more focused. Better Off Dead, Nastya and the title track giving us a trio in a row that get the foot tapping along nicely.
The anger really comes back in full force for the 38 second long bass-heavy ZAH. It could almost be a different band such is the venom of this short track and it is a bit jarring to then go into the most radio-friendly sounding track so far in Boys Don’t Cry.
The latter part of the album then keeps things hot. Switching between lighter and catchy pop melodies and pace-driven angst. The highlight being a rambunctious Young Blood and mellow Broken Bones.
Slenders have crafted a nice record here, one that delivers as much fire as it does chill.
