Album Review: SinnerAngel – Sinister Decálogo (GrimmDistribution)
Hailing from Columbia, SinnerAngel came to life in 2004 making the wait for this debut album quite something. Sinister Decálogo was released on June 25th 2017 via GrimmDistribution.
Sinister Decálogo is an album not content with sitting within one particular genre of metal. The ten tracks touch upon a number of different styles. You can expect to hear shades of black metal, death metal, power metal, thrash & on opening song Zeon, melodic death metal.
What might be seen as lacking identity ends up the most identifiable thing about SinnerAngel. It’s all about playing fast & heavy metal with buckets of riffs thrown it.
This is a great album. If Zeon hasn’t got the blood pumping then Cerberus will really get things going. Blackened fury in the vocals & absolutely brilliant guitar squeals & riffs. Its thumping beat will really get the head-banging going.
Sinister Decálogo is driven by a break-neck pace but it’s crowning moments come from the tempo changes that keep every track sounding fresh & exciting. Fugeo En Mi Alma’s blasting machine-gun like drum beat midway, the momentary slow-down & furious riffing that follows it on Abysmal Visions & the chunky hooks of Vestidos De Luto are three fantastic examples of the imagination & talent in SinnerAngel.
It’s very hard to find faults in Sinister Decálogo, it really is an amazing piece of work that is polished but still feels primal. Ending on IX, it’s one last furious attack that drops into soft acoustic melody to see things out. A great finish to one of the best heavy releases of 2017.
