Album Review: Shatter Brain – Pitchfork Justice (Wormholedeath/Aural Music)
Comprised of members of some of South Australia’s most successful heavy bands, Shatter Brain are an Adelaide based metal band boasting a heavy and pummelling sound reminiscent of acts like High on Fire, Black Breath, and Power Trip, with the occasional nod to classic metal and crossover.
Their debut album ‘Pitchfork Justice’ is now set for release worldwide via Wormhole Death/Aural Music on May 1st 2020.
Get your neck muscles warmed up, you’re going to need them. Shatter Brain’s debut is fast, very heavy and very, very defiant. A blend of classic heavy metal, thrash and hardcore that is constantly and consistently manic and in your face.
It’s only after two hyper-energy tracks that Shatter Brain change tactics, the title track dropping the tempo yet remaining intensely heavy. The riffs and the drums here are so thick, the air electrifies and the hair stands up on the body.
It’s far from alone though in creating that feeling. Shatter Brain having crafted an album where you’re constantly unprepared for what comes next but always excited to experience it. From the epic feel of Choosing Beggars to the balls out frantic speed of Fencesitter to the filthy guitar noise of Silent Screams and thrash finale of Death Goes On, this is a class album.
