Album Review: Shaam Larein – Sticka En Kniv I Världen (Svart Records)
Swedish goth-tinged doom and avant-garde metal band, Shaam Larein will release their album ‘Sticka En Kniv I Världen’ (lit. stick a knife into the world), on the 9th of December via Svart Records.
A little bit weird and quite a bit wonderful, Shaam Larein are certainly unique. Brimming with uninhibited creativity, their new album is an amalgamation of goth tones, doomy dreaminess, atmosphere, and avant-garde twists and turns. Given an exceptional amount of life by a commanding vocal performance.
This is Shaam Larein and chances are, you’ll be hearing a lot more about them once this album hits the streets. Inquisitiveness turns into fascination which turns into obsession. Few won’t be hooked by what this eclectic band has to offer here even though it is a challenging experience. That just makes it even more addictive.
An array of creative ideas, Shamm Larein push a lot of rock and metal boundaries throughout Sticka En Kniv I Världen. From the gloomy gothic atmosphere and doomy heaviness of the title track through to the impending feeling of dread that grows across Massacre’s immense size, and everything in between. This is a dramatic experience that oozes atmosphere in despondent fashion.
There are many highlights, and each subsequent listen brings more layers to the top. A characteristic exquisiteness and authentic amount of passion makes the likes of Beware the Duchess and Caress my Thoughts two particularly special sounding tracks. Although it’s like trying to choose which of your children is your favourite overall. It’s near impossible and you just don’t want to even think about it.
It’s totally Caress My Thoughts though.
