Album Review: The Rocket Dolls – DeadHead (Self Released)

Brighton based heavy rock trio The Rocket Dolls are ready to release their full length new studio album ‘DeadHead’ on Friday the 6th April 2018.

Vocalist & lead guitarist Nikki Smash talks about the new album:

“I wrote most of this record in a short space of time. It just started pouring out of me, the riffs, lyrics and melodies moulding the vibe of each song, and creating a monster of a dark, fighting, battle laden, anthemic rock album. It’s both a very personal album, but also a reflection on modern day society. We’re all incredibly proud of ‘DeadHead’, it’s our strongest collection of music to date and we can’t wait to share it with all our friends.”

DeadHead is fuelled by hook-laden riffs that make The Rocket Dolls’ brand of hard rock larger & more interesting in scope. The heavy rock trio have crafted an 11-track album that has groove, bounce & catchy rhythm. The first single, None of This is Right an exemplary example of the heavy beat that makes the album such a strong listen.

The groovy chugging guitar riff of She’s Starting Something Now, the heavy beat of the title track, the mournful melody of The Last Thing on My Mind and the grungier Drowning keep things exciting. Plenty to get the body moving & the mind racing.

A decent mix of fast, up-tempo rock songs & sorrowful melodic moments show off the wide range that The Rocket Dolls have. Certainly more then your ordinary hard rock band, the trio continue to surprise as Strain delivers thumping heaviness and the finale, Trigger brings seriously heavy groove & a fast-paced finish.

Very satisfying.
