Album Review: Rise of Avernus – Eigengrau (code666)
Eigengrau is the fourth studio release from Orchestral/Death/Doom Metal band Rise of Avernus. It will be released on January 19th 2018 via code666.
The grandness that comes with Eigengrau is something that will immediately grab the attention. While the heaviness that accompanies it is what will keep you listening on. Combining orchestral elements alongside extreme metal, Rise of Avernus present an eight-track album that stands out for its imagination & the scope of the band’s thinking.
Terminus delivers huge symphonic moments that sit comfortably alongside ferocious riffing, doom-like rhythm & death metal vocals. An opener that is a striking attempt at setting an early marker for the quality of the album as a whole.
Ad Infinitum ups the gothic tone, Gehenna switches between uplifting melody & extreme blast of death metal before Eigenlicht drops an impressive orchestral/metal combo.
Eigengrau is one of those albums that will impress fans of different sub-genres within metal. Everything compliments the other & nothing sounds out of place. This is not an attempt to jam orchestral music will a harder style of metal, the two are a match made in heaven.
No where is that better exemplified then on the short & hauntingly gorgeous penultimate track, Mimicry & the epic finale of Into Aetherium.
An outstanding release.
