Album Review: Revulsed – Cerebral Contamination (Everlasting Spew Records)

8 years after the critically acclaimed debut ‘Infernal Atrocity’, Revulsed are finally back to unleash their most brutal effort yet in the form ‘Cerebral Contamination’! Out on December 15th, 2023, via Everlasting Spew Records.

Do you enjoy wallowing in filth? Do you dream of feasting on bloody bile and fleshy chunks? How about having your ears twisted off and salt being poured into the wounds? Well, if the answer is yes, you might be a little off. No judgement though, you probably enjoy the hell out of Revulsed too. So that makes you alright in our books.

Although there’s a strong argument that anyone who ‘enjoys’ the brutality of Revulsed death metal probably isn’t ‘right’ really.

You must have a taste for this level of extreme, that’s for sure. Revulsed take an absolute no-nonsense approach to speed and heaviness and deliver death metal as grim as anything. A visceral approach with an undeniable amount of feral intent, it’s pulverising death metal, where even the lulls come with so much threat, it’s downright uncomfortable.

Hyperbole? Hear the carnage yourself and be prepared to suffer. Not including the atmosphere of the short intro, Cerebral Contamination has ten offerings of blood-thirsty noise, and it doesn’t let up. From the moment the blistering instruments and horrific growls arrive on Equitable Sufferance, to the moment the title track ends the album in scathing fashion, this album hurts the mind, body, and soul.

So much so, that there is mulching effect, and the noise does begin to feel less effective as it goes on. The mind adapts, even if Revulsed try as hard as they can to continually batter down the defences. It’s a war between the listener and the band, and everyone ends up being a winner. Take Cerebral Contamination for what it is, an ugly and angry slab of savage death metal, and you’ll come away feeling very satisfied.
