Album Review: Resolve – Human (Arising Empire)

Following on from their 2021 debut album ‘Between Me and The Machine’, French hardcore metal band Resolve will release their highly anticipated second full-length album ‘Human’ on September 15th, 2023, via Arising Empire.

Having built up a stellar reputation in a short amount of time, Resolve return with a monumental release. Eleven tracks long, each an individual banger, Human is an excellent release and begins with a bang, thanks to the thought-provoking opener that is the title track. Resolve focusing on measured intensity, heightened by clever touches of melody. When it blows up, it blows up big. Then there is Death Awaits, a track with massive melodies, energetic tempos, a bloody catchy chorus, and plenty of furious passion.

These first two tracks prove that Resolve have returned with intent. Pounding and powerful ‘core sounds, it’s one hell of a thrilling start to the record.

Excitement already at a high, Older Days takes that up to a new blood-thumping level with touches of hip-hop and melody, blended with abrasive aggression. A strong example of Resolve’s modernised musical abilities. Whereas Continuum is a strong example of how they can be so melodramatic and manic in just one song.

A big high point of the record is Bloodlust as it finds Resolve wanting to wreck everything in spates. Fast, frenzied, and furious sounding, the melodic lulls only serve to make the eruptions even more intense.

Then there is In Stone, a heartfelt and atmospheric offering, that hits the emotions and grows in strength as it goes on. Before Comfortably Dumb goes for all out anthemic chaos and Ignite has such a bouncy and feel-good sound, almost pop-punky in style. Two different sounding tracks from Resolve, but both equally lovable.

Riffs weighted in gold, an airy and dreamy chorus, and one hell of a breakdown; it’s Move to Trash. A heavy, fast, and unbelievably anthemic track. Whereas New Colors is a track with a lot of heart and soul in it. Taking the listener on one hell of a journey. One littered with soaring synthy melodies, powerful heavy beats, and so much more. The experimentation results in a memorable song, and it has an absolute beast of a chorus.

Finally, this stellar album wraps up with one last immense and immersive banger in the form of Moonchild. The cherry on top really, as nothing could dent the quality of this album, but it sure does help that this finale is poignant and powerful.
