Album Review: Rain City Drive – Rain City Drive (Thriller Records)

Formerly Slaves US, Rain City Drive are embracing their next chapter with their brand-new self-titled album. It will be released on July 15th, 2022 via Thriller Records.

New name but the same passion, same swagger and same post hardcore with pop sensibilities sound, it’s Rain City Drive and they’ve got a banger album here.

This is one of those reviews where the words ‘preaching to the choir’ apply. Rain City Drive’s success is immense and deserved. Their fanbase; large, dedicated and diverse, adores this band so when we describe this album as being top-shelf quality, few will be surprised.

Nor will anyone be surprised that it is an album of anthems. Eleven in total that range from energetic pop-infused club hits to heavy, riff-driven bouts of post-hardcore intensity. It’s Rain City Drive and their confidence is at an all-time high.

You can’t really expect any different though as they have the music to back up their swagger. Yet, it’s not arrogance that comes through with songs like Waiting on You, Dreams, Psycho, Blood Runs Cold or If I Was Right. It’s assuredness. Rain City Drive know they have the songs and the fanbase is going to absolutely lap this up.

It’s also an album likely to win them even more as, once again, the crossover appeal is massive. Not poppy enough to put off fans of heavier music but not so heavy that pop fans will run away. It sits in a really comfortable place in between the two, even if certain tracks lean to one sound over the other. Of course, if you have a specific taste that doesn’t line-up with Rain City Drive and you’re not willing to open your mind, you’ll likely give this a miss. A shame as it really is a good album.
