Album Review: Rabid Bitch Of The North – Nothing But A Bitter Taste (Hostile Media)

Rabid Bitch of the North have already made quite a name for themselves within the metal world thanks to 10 years of performing live. It’s simply amazing that on August 18th 2017 they will finally release their debut album, Nothing but a Bitter Taste via Hostile Media.

A unashamed throwback to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) days, Nothing but a Bitter Taste is 8 songs of classic British heavy metal. Music that is played fast & most importantly…played heavy.

The rolling riff that gets things going on The Missionary is straight out of the 80’s heavy metal playbook. An throwback to days of metal that have mostly long gone. It’s nostalgic in style but sounds fresh because of how little music sounds like this anymore.

Gloriously old school, songs like Chance, Gilded Men & God Punishment are filled with raw & scratchy vocals, huge riffs & throbbing bass hooks. It’s metal that calls to the denim jacket, patch covered part of all metal fans. What Rabid Bitch of the North do might be wholly unoriginal but they’re damn good at it.

Some of the best moments come from the screaming solos that the band drop in songs like the title track, Nothing but a Bitter Taste & Demon Mind.

The final double header of Defending Two Castles & Trapped in 1999 confirm what you should already know by now. Nothing but a Bitter Taste is a slamming piece of heavy metal music. The latter of two in particular, with its shouty gang-vocal chorus & furious pace, really sees things off in style.

It’s a banger. An old-school slab of fun heavy metal that shouldn’t detract from just how good at this Rabid Bitch of the North are.
