Album Review: Plush – Plush (Pavement Entertainment)
Plush is a new hard rock band with a mission to bring rock back to the forefront of the music industry. Plush is composed of four talented women, under 21, whose accomplishments and talent eclipse their age. This female rock force is fronted by singer, songwriter and guitarist Moriah Formica. Drummer Brooke Colucci, guitarist Bella Perron and bassist Ashley Suppa round out the line-up.
Plush’s self-titled debut album is slated for release on the 29th October, 2021, via Pavement Entertainment.
There are a lot of accolades surrounding this band already and one listen will tell you exactly why the rock world is abuzz with Plush’s rise. The foursome, heavy enough to turn a metalhead in their direction but accessible and commercial enough to be hitting the radio and charts with ease.
An authentic sound, a relatable sound and plenty of anthemic tracks. Don’t be surprised if in a year’s time Plush are one of the most talked about names in rock music. Just listen to the first two tracks to understand that. Athena and Champion have plenty of heavy groove and choruses that are full-on sing/chant alongs.
Punchy and succinct, Hate is a passionate sounding track that will resonate with listeners. Found A Way has a solid guitar solo, rising vocals and a melodramatic undertone that sets it apart. I Don’t Care is a return to the crowd-pleasing chant-along style and seems tailor made for the live scene. Before the halfway point of the album is reached with the mellower but equally powerful Sober and defiant beat of Better Off Alone.
Kick-ass stuff and exactly the sort of music to help wake you up from a life-draining stupor.
Sorry, Why Do I Even Try, Bring Me Down and Don’t Say That do not change a winning formula and Plush continue to showcase their powerful radio-friendly range with enough heavy groove to please a wide array of listeners. Enough can’t be said about how well the group work together with no one instrument dominating, or focus being in a less interesting place.
Some may not love how many of the tracks deal with relationships, breakups and moving on but its relatable. Also, it’s from a more rebellious stance. Designed to lift you up and tell you that you’ll be ok in the long term. Pain is temporary, life is worth living.
Exemplified by the final two heavy-hitters; Will Not Win and Walk Away. Don’t be surprised if Plush is all you hear about over the next couple of years. Get on board now.
