Album Review: The Perms – Miracle (Hugtight Records)
Canadian alt-rock band, The Perms are back with their latest album, Miracle. Nine tracks of catchy hooks & melodies.
If you’re a big fan of a more mellow indie rock sound then you’ll feel instantly comfortable with Miracle. Julie kicks things off in a comfortable but feel good way thanks to some excellent vocals & memorable melody.
The catchy hooks that permeates the entire album really come out to play on the up-tempo Be Alright. The sweetness of Lose Yourself leaves a nice light & warm feeling inside thanks to the brilliant use of synths, arguably the most impressive song on the entire album.
Keeping most tracks very short serves The Perms well. Nothing ever feels like it’s overstaying its welcome. Each track just giving enough to leave a nice feeling of satisfaction. The trio are way more than just your average alt-indie rock band & Miracle proves that.
Think Less has a little more bite while Busy Izzy has some fun with some great fist pumping hooks that has a twang that reminds you of greasers & drive in theatres.
It’s actually quite disappointing when Miracle ends as it feels way too soon. Not that The Perms allow the high quality to dip at all finishing off with pure grin-inducing tunes. If anyone doesn’t feel lifted by Turnaround’s sing-along rhythm then they’re probably already dead inside.
A fantastic rock album finishes off with one surprise as the band deliver an acoustic guitar melody with powerful vocals to awaken your more emotional side. A very impressive listen.
