Album Review: Osiah – Loss (Unique Leader Records)

Hailing from the extreme music melting pot that is the North East of England, Osiah have made a name for themselves transcending the deathcore label with their trademark hideous, grisly, torturous barrage of filth. Recognising that 2021 has not yet been punishing enough, the band have returned with their sickeningly heavy new record, Loss, to be released 7th May via the renowned Unique Leader Records.

Wanting to make you suffer, Osiah bring a colossal amount of pain and pleasure with this behemoth offering. A bombardment of deathcore, with leanings towards the more traditional slam elements too. If you want agony, they have plenty to dish out.

Radiating viciousness, the fury of Osiah has little rules and even less boundaries. This, a 13-track album, detonates from the off and flat-out refuses to slow down. Calling the likes of The Second Law, Paracusia and Queen of Sorrow ‘savage’ is not enough to do them justice. Those first few tracks are akin to having your skin peeled off and gravel rubbed across your exposed nerve-endings.

Seemingly to up the ante, somehow, Ingested’s Jason Evans brings his incredible vocal talents to help turn the title track into something even beastlier. Scowling and roaring away, he fits perfectly with Osiah’s vehemence. Later, Ben Duerr (Shadow of Intent/Hollow Prophet) also pops in to cause even more pandemonium on The Eye of the Swarm. The sound of true metal horror.

Elsewhere, the frenzy of blood and guts that Osiah spill is never-ending. Terracide Compulsion, War Within Our Walls, Celer et Audax and Echoes, another chunky spewing of deathcore bile. Repulsive? In a way but let’s be honest, we all like to roll around in this kind of filth sometimes.

Who cares if it’s deadly!
