Album Review: Ominous Scriptures – Rituals of Mass Self-Ignition (Willowtip Records)
Belarus brutal death metallers Ominous Scriptures will unleash their third full-length album ‘Rituals of Mass Self-Ignition’ on January 27th, 2023, via Willowtip Records.
No surprises here! This is one hell of a nasty, violent, and guttural death metal record. Ominous Scriptures delivering nothing but brutalising extreme metal in a concise and measured fashion.
We’re talking less than 30 minutes of bilious heaviness. Where skin flaying guitar riffs, thick and chunky percussion, and outrageously guttural vocals dominate the mind, body and soul from the first second to the very last. Putting it simply, it’s the equivalent of a street-mugging that extends to a hospital-visiting assault.
You’ll know immediately if this kind of death metal is to your taste or not. Especially as there really aren’t any surprises and Ominous Scriptures stick to their formula throughout. It’s a winning one though, provided you fancy taking the beating they are dishing out here.
A little taste, perhaps? Try the title track. Which is one garish example of just how fast, heavy and furious Ominous Scriptures can sound. Pure, unrestrained, and uncompromising death metal savagery. Although, if you fancy something more guttural and chaotic, the slapdash frenzy of blood and guts that is Inhabitant of the Lacrimarium will deliver.
