Album Review: Nekrogoblikon – The Fundamental Slimes and Humours (Self Released)
The self-proclaimed “Best Goblin Metal on the Planet”, known as Nekrogoblikon, are due to release their new album The Fundamental Slimes and Humours on the 1st of April 2022.
It’s easy to forget, such is the amusing way in which the band portray themselves, that Nekrogoblikon are killer musicians. A band that has been around since 2006 and haven’t always been given the respect they deserve.
That changes now as their new album, The Fundamental Slimes and Humours is triumph of melo-rock, death metal and EDM. Nekrogoblikon have released a banger here and it’s time for everyone to start giving them the props they deserve.
Starting things off with the unbelievable ear-worm that is Right Now, the unique features of this band are made immediately clear. Their goblin-shaped tongue might be jammed in their cheek but the blistering, chaotic verses and groovy rock chorus followed by a thrilling EDM heavy switch up is so much fun.
The adrenaline is up and Nekrogoblikon make sure it stays that way with the immensely catchy Golden Future and the chaotic Yin. The former is such an enormous sing-along, whereas the latter is Nekrogoblikon at their most ferociously technical.
Things just keep getting better as the album goes on too. Supernovas (Exploding in Space), Bones, Going to Die and A Lesson in Hate. Each as interesting, weird, energetic, catchy, technically sound and heavy as each other. Variety is the something that Nekrogoblikon embody and these tracks showcase that with aplomb.
Talking of which… This is It comes next. Where a mix of folky flute playing and piano melody leads into the guitars and drums picking up the rhythm. The vocals are really horrific sounding here but it all comes together in a grin-inducing chorus.
The latter portion of the album makes sure Nekrogoblikon go out as they begun and that is in spectacular ‘goblikoness’ fashion. Fancy Winds has one of the album’s best choruses, Carousels has some serious lavishness to it and No Such Thing as a Key ends the album on an EDM rock infused high.
Not only is The Fundamental Slimes and Humours a ton of fun, it’s also Nekrogoblikon producing some genuinely brilliant music.
