Album Review: Nekkromaniac – Plague Eater (Gates of Hell Records)
Relentless, raw and ravaging black/thrash from the depths of the German metal underground! Inspired by the (un)holy trifecta of Bathory, Merciless and Sodom, Germany’s Nekkromaniac lay to waste the weak-minded and trend-addled on their first full-length, Plague Eater. Gates of Hell Records will issue a remastered version of the band’s 2021 self-released full-length on vinyl on June 10th, 2022.
An aggressive, revolting, ill-mannered slice of old-school blackened thrash metal, Plague Eater hasn’t gotten any easier on the ears since its release last year. A blistering and fiery blast of brash noise, it’s eight tracks of ruthless savagery that will have many a fan digging around for that old bullet belt.
A mix of cold and unforgiving winds that cut through flesh, right to the bone and hellish infernos that melt muscle tissue and render fat. From beginning to end, Nekkromaniac expel horror, pain, and suffering.
Though, such descriptions don’t mean they’re just a bunch of noise-mongers with little to no talent. After all, this level of unbridled intensity takes skill and effort. Nowhere is that better exemplified on this album than with the chilling Napalm Funeral, disturbing Pit and The Pendulum, and nauseous Bleed for The Master.
It’s the kind of nasty old-school noise you want to hear on vinyl which is lucky considering this re-release.
