Album Review: Necrotted – Imperium (Reaper Entertainment)
German slamming death metallers Necrotted will release their crushing new album ‘Imperium’ on September 22nd, 2023, via Reaper Entertainment.
Sometimes all you want is music that picks you up roughly and slams you down with force. Sometimes all you want is music that beats you over the head and kicks you when you’re lying in a foetal position on the floor.
Praise be for Necrotted then because this is the attitude they embody. A band that, since 2008, has never failed to deliver crunching and chaotic death metal. A band that gleefully brutalises and assertively dominates. They’re back and they’re bringing the carnage with this new album.
With a bevy of thundering riffs, melody-infusions, brutal blastbeats, and garish vocals, Imperium is a heavyweight release that leaves you feeling black and blue all over. The moment the melody of A Veiled Awakening transforms into a cacophony of heaviness, the beating begins, and it only seems to get more violent as it goes on.
Tracks like Reich der Gier, with its stomping drumbeats, twisted melodic guitars, and sickening vocal roars. Sow Sorrow for Victory, a meaty track that evolves to showcase some impressive atmosphere. Artificicial Truth, and the absolute savagery of the vocals. Or the underlying blackness and bleakness of Ignorance is Fear. This is Necrotted at their absolute best, reaching into deep and dark places to find such wonderful noise.
Enough good things can’t be said about this album, and it’s almost unfair to pick any aspect out as being better than the other. However, it must be said that the drums are so on point. The blastbeats are constantly and consistently brutalising, and once again, a major showcase of Round X: Freedom V Security.
Whereas, it’s the guitars that dominate the momentous Imperator and the crushing Order Beyond All Bounds. Right up to the very end, Necrotted still bring smashing and crashing levels of intensity. Which does mean there’s a sense of sadness as Imperium comes to an end with My Reign Come, My Will Be Done. Sadness, but satisfaction none the less. It’s a great album that reiterates what most already know about this band. Necrotted will f**k you up and you’ll love every second if it.
