The new album, The Nacarat, from Canada’s Monobrow is set to be released on May 31st via Trill Or Be Trilled Records.
A record that is packed full of stoner rock riffs & rhythms opening with The First Vague Rumblings of Impending Revolution. A nice slow & sludgy sound, great sounding swampy riffs & groovy beat. It’s great start & really sets the mood for what follows with the lack of vocals throughout allowing the guitars to really breathe.
Capes & Monocles spacey sound gives off even more groove with these lovely bass heavy moments. The sudden increases in pace drive the song forward. A twisting & curving tune that never sits still for too long. It’s inventive, wild & so enjoyable. A stunning song that just keeps on giving.
At only 5 tracks long, The Nacarat has a lot to do in a short amount of time. The forgettable, We Can Make it Look Like An Accident slows things down before the efforts of Twin Sheiks & The Decline of the West and Other Small Tragedies bring things back around. The two songs combined come in at almost 20 minutes long & while, Twin Sheiks starts off slow the rumbling stoner-doom comes to an end midway changing into a far more pleasing sound.
Almost two different songs, melody kicks in alongside some fantastic bass chug before kicking things up a notch with some seriously hard hitting riffs.
The final song, Decline of the West and Other Small Tragedies offers something a little different with soft guitar melody & light drum taps for the first few minutes before it erupts into the more familiar sound. It gets really inventive halfway through with some psychedelic guitar work. A great effort from Monobrow, The Nacarat is an interesting, well produced stoner rock album that can proudly sit amongst its peers.
