Album Review: Magg Dylan – Amethyst (Eclipse Records)
Alternative metallers Magg Dylan present their new album, Amethyst. Ten alternative metal anthems which showcase the band’s emotional raw energy. It will be released on February 21st 2020 via Eclipse Records.
The driving forces behind Magg Dylan’s new album are two things. Firstly the haunting yet powerful vocals of front woman Suzanne. She’s got a grand voice that can entrance as much as it can knock back. Secondly, the chunkiness of the groove that is layered throughout the majority of the album.
That being said, it’s not the most exciting of records. Not for a lacking of trying from Magg Dylan though. The likes of Delusional, Stood Up and Herakane have plenty of fizz and bang, enough so that they’d get a dance floor at a club moving with ease. However, like many club hits, they’re heard in a bubble then promptly forgotten in favour of the next hit and so on.
That’s Magg Dylan’s Amethyst in a nutshell. A fun listen that doesn’t have longevity, it’s hard to believe this will be still be part of a playlist in a month’s time.
If that sounds harsh, it’s not meant to be. This is a good album, the unit have a really polished metal sound that makes them all the more radio friendly and the anthemic quality of Tearz, Sadness and F.I.N.E are appealing.
