Album Review: Lost in Bohemia – Volume 1 (Trepanation Recordings)
Trepanation Recordings presents ‘Volume 1’, the debut album from London based duo, Lost in Bohemia. It will be released on December 30th, 2022.
Plenty of bands spend hours upon hours in the studio aiming to capture the no frills and real sound that Lost in Bohemia showcase on this debut. The band keeping it simple and, in their own words, showcasing ghetto metal production.
It certainly gives the album a classic feel, which helps as their style of music harks back to an old-school gothic rock/metal sound with elements of 80’s industrial smattered around. It’s familiar but, and this is really important, Lost in Bohemia take a fresher approach. Part of which comes from the attempt to capture the live experience. Something they do with impressive ease.
Keeping things extremely tight at around 26-minutes, the 8 tracks of Volume 1 range in style. From peppy and danceable numbers to groovier beats and rockier slices of excitement. The two members also share vocal duties, have their own distinct tones and are equally talented. Often giving some of the more lifeless moments a jolt of energy.
You see, while it is admirable what Lost in Bohemia have set out to do and accomplish here. There are times when it just doesn’t spark. However, those moments are outweighed by the moments that do and importantly, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s also varied and that will certainly capture a lot of listener’s attention.
